Analysis Writing:
Peer Review Checklist/Instructions:
I think when I give you a worksheet for peer review you get more caught up in completing the worksheet than actually giving good feedback. So there is nothing you have to fill out for this peer review. Instead, I want you to read your partner's paper and then discuss some of the strengths and weaknesses that you notice. In order to guide your conversation, I am providing you with a list of things I will be looking for when I grade:
-
the author has identified strategies (rhetorical or satirical), and not just summarized content
-
the author has pointed to specific parts of the text (through quote or paraphrase) where the author uses these strategies.
-
the author's explanation of each strategy identifies the intended effect on the audience
-
the author understands the goal of the article and explains how each strategy serves that goal.
-
the author recognizes that the article was a work of satire.
It is very important that you talk! Think of this like an informal conference. If you finish early, trade with someone else. The more feedback, the better.
